Geistė Marija Kinčinaitytė. Sunless Seas of Ice
35.00€
Geistė Marija Kinčinaitytė’s monograph Sunless Seas of Ice (2024) explores geopoetic space, facilitating a critique of techno-utopian narratives that shape the Earth and celestial bodies into measurable resources and extractable units of value. Drawing on her recent video works, Sunless Seas of Ice (2024) and Harmonic Tremors (2024), Kinčinaitytė creates links between the Icelandic landscape and other cosmic bodies to question the rapid development of the New Space Age. The book contains photographs of lunar samples and recent mappings of the Moon’s South Pole, an area that promises deposits of ice inside permanently shadowed craters. Appropriated scientific images of the Moon placed alongside the photographic and video works by Kinčinaitytė invite us to think about a feedback loop between ice, data archives, and our desire to press against the unknown.
