The collection of art presented in this album represents the first and foremost goal of the Lithuanian Expatriate Art Foundation, which is to perform a systematic research of Lithuanian and Litvak artwork scattered all over the world and to bring it back to Lithuania, as well as to cherish the expatriate cultural heritage as a sign of continuity of the nation and the state.

According to the compiler and text author of the book prof. dr. Rasa Andriušytė-Žukienė, this is a noble and dignified yet not easy task, especially knowing all the twists and turns in the history of Lithuania and almost invariably and fatally unfavourable conditions for the development of art and culture: “We are still trying to make up for lost time and collect all that has been dissipated or scattered all over the world. On the other hand, the artwork that is part of the collection, the stories of its return to Lithuania and its second life in the eyes of the researchers, in exhibitions and art albums show that almost everything becomes possible if major efforts are taken in the field of culture.”

The album is also supplemented with some thoughts of the artists themselves. Aidas Bareikis, Ray Bartkus, Stasys Eidrigevičius, Vytenis Jankūnas, Rūta Jusionytė, Žilvinas Kempinas, Ieva Martinaitytė-Mediodia, SetP Stanikas, Indrė Šerpytytė, and Kęstutis Zapkus kindly agreed to share their views on their own art and their attitude towards collecting, including the main ideas behind their artwork that is now part of the Lithuanian Expatriate Art Foundation collection and the circumstances under which they were created.
