Juozas Galkus (born 1932) is one of the most prominent poster artists in Lithuania – one could not imagine Lithuanian graphic design without him. His artistic innovations pushed forward the processes of moernisation in the latter part of the 20th century, he helped shape the Lithuanian school of poster design and has represented Lithuania at important international exhibitions. He passed on his experience to the students of the Vilnius Academy of Arts Graphic Art Department, where he taught several generations of poster designers over 50 years.

Book design is another important part of his work, with designs created for over 100 books. Many celebratory postcards, programmes and invitations were also conceived in his studio. Furthermore, he was among the very first to start designing logos in the soviet era.
